May average RSS3 price announced by Central Rubber Market in Songkhla stood at 60.85 Baht/kg, 3.88 % up from April. The price improved in a narrow range and declined in the second half of the month due to the following factors. Chinese rubber stock accumulated at Shanghai rubber market touched 313,769 tons as of 13 May 2016, 13% up from 6 May, as a result, China has decelerated the purchase and anticipated lower price when output grows. Surging yen hit 19 month high against dollar, giving pressure to exports and global economy as a whole, coupled with expectation that Bank of Japan decides against any fresh market stimulus. In addition, investors were concerned about China’s slowdown after China released data indicating continued sluggish economy. Chinese private companies’ debt increased. Moody’s Investors Service expected that Chinese economy will slow down to 6.3 % this year from 6.9 % in 2015.
